DETERMINATION OF GEOID SURFACE

In this study, a local geoid was determined using the geometric method. The method depends on the separation between the ellipsoidal height and the orthometric heights of every point. The geodetic coordinates were obtained using Handheld GPS, the points were also extracted from the device. The Handheld GPS makes reference to the World Geodetic Reference System to obtain geodetic coordinates and the Mean sea level for Orthometric heights.

The orthometric height of each point was subtracted from the ellipsoidal height to evaluate the geoidal undulation. A Digital Elevation model was generated for the geoidal undulation indicating the range of undulation all over the surface and a 3D surface model was also developed to visualise the geoid surface in three dimensions using the ArcMap and ArcScene frameworks of ArcGis software.
