SUITABILITY ANALYSIS FOR SOLAR IN KENYA

A GIS-based approach was employed to identify suitable sites for PV power plants in Kenya.Data was based on five criteria, including annual global horizontal radiation, annual average temperature, elevation, slope and distance from the major power grids.

The GIS layers for these five layers were determined, using the AHP program as guided by 4 solar experts. Combining the 5 rating value layers with the weightings , a site suitability map was developed.
