Spatial Analysis/counts and distribution
  • 1st Frame (top map, 1st from left). Using the Spatial Join tool found the number of tornadoes per state. State boundary file obtained from Census Bureau.

  • 2nd Frame (top map, 2nd from left). Used the Aggregate Points tool to place a 20-mile diameter bin around the tornado points.

  • 3rd Frame (lower map, 1st from left). Using Joins and Relates tool, added ESRI Population per county data to a boundary file of US counties. Using spatial join, added the tornado points to the county boundary layer. Symbolized using the Jenks method.

  • 4th Frame (lower frame, 2nd from left). Creating a table showing states with most tornado fatalities by counting the number of tornados by the state field with the Summarize tool.
