Waste generation in a region or location can be modeled and predicted by using a combination of waste causative factors in an environment. Anthropogenic and natural factors can be modeled based on waste generation capabilities.
This project modeled Waste generation in Katagum, Bauchi using geospatial tools to infer waste generation. The region was divided into even tiles, while point data were gathered on the field. Points of interest such as Markets, Settlements, Religious grounds, Industries, etc were accurately mapped out. A model based on a summative ranking of each land use type was generated to infer waste generation in those locations.
The study solidified the inference that city centers as a result of the types of activities carried out, produce more waste than fringe areas.
